Yesterday evening we occupied Scottish Coal’s new opencast mine site in the Douglas Valley for Take Back the Land! – a week of action against the destruction of opencast mining.

Home Office in Glasgow has been Dawn Raided!

At 5:30am this morning a group of douzen protesters from Unity and the No Borders Network have blockaded and closed the gates at the UKBA reporting centre in Brand Street Glasgow, in protest against the continuing detention of children and the practice of early morning raids following the harrowing dawn raids and subsequent detention of two African families in the city over the last month.

Unemployed win right to representation at Workfare provider A4e

Unemployed people in Edinburgh have won a significant victory by forcing workfare provider A4e to recognise that claimants on their programmes have the right to take their own representative to meetings with A4e.  For over two and a half years A4e have refused to recognise reps from Edinburgh Claimants, affiliated to Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty.  A4e often called the police to evict both rep and claimant from their offices in Edinburgh's Earl Grey Street!

Members of Clydeside Industrial Workers of the World, the Anarchist Federation and Solidarity Federation picketed the Queen Street branch of Holland & Barrett at lunchtime on Saturday 31st March.

Demonstrators in Edinburgh took direct action on the 31st March Britain-wide day of action against workfare.    Protestors occupied British Heart Foundation for an hour then invaded Poundstretcher – both heavily involved in the government’s compulsory “work-for-your-benefits” schemes.
