Skint book lovers rejoice! To celebrate national libraries day, which is today, the council has announced a library fine amnesty lasting until Friday the 15th of February.
So, if you’ve developed a dangerous addiction to culture that you’re struggling to manage, now is the time to free yourself from the threat of the book bailiffs.
To liberate yourself from your embarrassing borrowing record all you need to do is go to Leith Library or the MacDonald Road library and have a quiet word with a member of staff.
However, you should beware of the small print.
The amnesty does not extend to scurrilous thieves who may have incurred fines for over-borrowing DVD’s or CD’s. And if you got carried away in your culture indulgences to the extent that you harmed any of the books you borrowed – as well as your bank balance – you’ll still have to pay up to cover those costs.
Despite these restrictions, it might still be worth the journey. You might come across council staff dancing with hula hoops, as this film shot in Leith Library shows.
