Zapatista Solidarity Calendar published

Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity Group has published a 2014 Zapatista Solidarity Calendar to support indigenous peoples struggle for autonomy in southern Mexico.  Published jointly with the Kiptik solidarity group, the calendar features a full colour A4 photo from Chiapas and a full A4 page calendar for each month.

The photos portray the people and the life in the Zapatista communities in resistance.   In these remote villages in the jungles and mountains of Chiapas the local indigenous people are creating their own clinics, schools and co-operative projects.  Communal land reclaimed from the rich landowners is now being used for organic agriculture to feed the people.

All funds raised go to directly support Zapatista autonomy, including the Zapatista autonomous health and education systems, and projects that build drinking water systems in Zapatista villages.

Among the photos are stunning portraits by Spanish photographer Alicia de Conde, an ex-Edinburgh resident, who obtained special permission to visit and take photographs in Zapatista Autonomous Municipality “16 de Febrero”, twinned with the Edinburgh solidarity group.

If ordered direct from Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity Group, the calendars are £6 each plus £1.80 post and packing.  Payment is by cheque or to our bank account – full details, plus thumbnails of all the photos are at http://www.edinchiapas.org.uk/node/452

You can also order online with a card from AK Distribution, at £9 including post and packing.

In Edinburgh the calendars are on sale at The One World Shop, The Peace and Justice Centre, Wordpower Bookshop, New Leaf Co-op and the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh (prices vary, mainly £7.50 - £8).

An ideal Christmas/ Solstice/ New Year present!
